As a record producer and film director with three decades of experience working with world-famous acts such as Velvet Revolver, Gina Gershon, Slash, and Scott Weiland, Rocco Guarino knows what it takes to get the best sound out of any combination of artists and studio equipment. Guarino shares his experience trusting Furman power protection and conditioning equipment in the studio and for live performance set ups for nearly three decades.

Guarino’s recording environment offers musicians a level of consistency and protection against power problems that is crucial to deliver quality recordings and enable artists to focus on performing at their highest level. All of his valuable and sensitive studio equipment is powered through a Furman P-2400 IT Symmetrically Balanced Power Conditioner that ensures clean, reliable power is available at all times, no matter what the power company or building is actually delivering.

In addition to providing a reliable source of clean power for optimal equipment performance, Guarino’s setup includes a Furman F-1500 UPS battery backup to provide emergency protection from brownouts or blackouts that could otherwise force uncontrolled shutoffs and damage expensive studio components. Below, learn how Guarino continues to trust Furman products today.

Q: When did you first get introduced to Furman® products and why is it still your trusted brand for power protection and power conditioning?

Guarino: When I started producing and engineering as a teenager, I was using Furman® gear. I trust Furman power conditioning and power backup products to provide a clean foundation on which any type of record can be built. Southern California studio owners know that inconsistent power can be a major source of headaches and production problems, and that Furman gear can protect equipment while delivering a pristine sound floor free of noise or interference from uncontrolled electrical systems.

Q: What’s the benefit of using Furman® products in the studio?

Guarino: My studio is my temple, but I have no control over what happens outside of these walls. In order to guarantee my clients have the same starting point every time they come in to record, I need a space that’s protected from any outside interference. A lot of musicians are unaware of how power fluctuations can affect the sound of instruments, speakers and effects, and it’s my job to make sure they don’t need to worry about it. Put simply, Furman power protection is the first step in creating a high-quality audio environment.

Q: How important is it for artists to have a clean power source?

Guarino: It doesn’t matter if you’re recording or performing live, or whether it’s gospel or thrash metal. Every piece of gear — from preamps to equalizers to monitors — can only function as intended if they are fed by a clean power source. I’ve trusted Furman products to power all of my studio and live performance gear for more than 30 years, and I would recommend that any artist or engineer do the same if they want a product that always delivers.

Guarino explained that as chief engineer for Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), and Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters), it’s his duty to find the best equipment and make sure that every person using the studio can begin with a clean noise floor. He also noted that, outside the studio, reliable power delivery is vital for artists to achieve consistent sound across varying venues where house power can often be dirty or otherwise inconsistent.

The Furman P-2400 IT Symmetrically Balanced Power Conditioner is designed for the most critical, ultra-low noise installations, providing unparalleled AC noise reduction and 100 percent isolation from the power grid for the lowest noise floor possible.

The Furman F1500-UPS battery backup is designed specifically for audio/video professionals. It features Furman’s exclusive Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS), Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT) and true sine wave output through eight outlets. The F1500-UPS is also expandable, with the option to add multiple Furman BATT1500E-EXT battery packs to extend runtime.
